Sceloporus consobrinus

Field ID: Gray and brown, spiny-scaled lizard. Pale stripes on sides of back and black bars along the stripes. Color and patterns vary widely. Animals with rows of chevrons down the back live in rocky habitats from the northern Front Range to southeastern Colorado. Those with stripes of black flecks inhabit sandy prairies of eastern Colorado. Scales on the back of the thigh are keeled. Male: Vivid blue patches on sides of belly and throat. Size: 3½–7½ inches (8.9–19.1 cm).
